Margarita Hernandez Parrilla, loving wife, mother and friend to many, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. She was born on November 20, 1917 in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Isabel and Juana Hernandez.

Margarita and family settled in Meriden on September 7, 1947. She was initially employed by International Silver Company. After graduating from The Connecticut Institute of Hairdressing in Hartford, CT, she worked at Bunce’s Hair Salon in Middletown. In 1964, she and colleague Diane Galanto Jakiela opened The Glamour Nook in Cromwell. In 1975, Margarita opened Margo’s Hair Center in Meriden where she worked until her retirement.
She is survived by two daughters, Margarita P Ogorzalek and husband Wayne L. and Magali P. Kupfer and husband Charles; seven grandchildren, Kim Cardona and husband Carlos, Karen McClean and husband John, Keith Kupfer and wife Andrea, Dawn Antolini and partner Chuck, Wayne P. Ogorzalek, Wesley K. Ogorzalek and wife Lori and Anthony Willette; 18 great grandchildren, Alysia, Derick, Dylan, Dayna, Karley, Kyle, Nicholas, Gabrielle, Alexandra, Ava, James, Rocky, Tony, Marin, Mackenzie, Matthew, Macie and Maya; and six great great grandchildren, Jordan, Cameron, Kaylee, Riley, Logan and Briella.
Margarita was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Graciniano “Chelo” Parrilla, her grandson, Antonio Antolini, her daughter, Magda P. Rizza, and her son-in-law, Ernest Rizza. She was also predeceased by 14 siblings, two younger brothers were Meriden residents, Ismael Hernandez, husband of Carmen Torres, and Domingo Hernandez, husband of Maria Robles.
