Kenneth J. Austin, 90, husband of the late Mary E. (Grover) Austin, died on Thursday October 24, 2019 after a long illness. Kenneth was born in Springfield, VT on April 25, 1929 to the late Clarence and Althea (Robinson) Austin. He graduated from Springfield High School and worked for Fellows Gear Shaper Co. in Springfield VT before moving to Meriden for many years. Mr. Austin was a World War II veteran serving honorably with the U.S. Navy. He traveled with Admiral Byrd’s Antarctic Expedition aboard the USS Pine Island, in 1946-1947. Kenneth was also a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, the American Legion Post 45 in Meriden, CT and the VFW Post 771 in Springfield, VT. Kenneth was also a proud member of the Antique Veterans of Meriden World Post #1.

Kenneth is survived by his three daughters, Linda M. Smith, Carol A. Cronk and her husband Steve and Cindy L. Catapano and her husband Nicholas; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild and another on the way! He also leaves behind his sister Martha Guthrie. Kenneth was pre-deceased by his brothers Lloyd and Donald and a son-in-law Theodore Smith.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 33 Fairground Rd, Springfield, VT 05156. Burial with military honors will follow at Oakland Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kenneth’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at or P.O.
