John's 50+ year career with Meriden Public Schools was guided by his core tenant of always treating others with dignity and respect. He was a firm believer in nurturing and developing the whole adolescent, conscious of their emotional, physical and academic needs. He began as a science teacher at Washington Middle School in 1968, where he also revamped the science curriculum for the entire district and served as the president of the teachers union. In 1980, he became an administrator at Lincoln Middle School (LMS) where he was integral in the innovative design and opening of the new LMS in 2005. Soon after retiring in 2007, John was humbled to be elected and serve on Meriden’s Board of Education for the past 12 years where he passionately advocated for the district (and was undeterred by illness to fulfill his many subcommittee leadership roles). Of note, the opportunity to oversee the recent renovations at Maloney and Platt High School (his alma mater ‘62) on the Building Committee brought him great pride. John was also Board President of MembersFirst CT Federal Credit Union and a Boys & Girls Club of Meriden Board Member. The Lineen family is extremely grateful to John's extended Meriden School family for their loving support during his illness.
John is survived by two sons, John D. Lineen, III and his wife Kathryn and their children, Jessica, Megan, Alyssa and John D. Lineen, IV of Collegeville, PA; his son Jason C. Lineen and his wife Jennifer and their twins, Connor and Sienna, of Wilmette, IL; and two brothers Donald and his wife Cyndi of Colorado, and Michael and his wife Sandra of South Carolina. John greatly enjoyed his six grandchildren and was an avid fan of UCONN basketball, Notre Dame and New York Giants football. He was predeceased by his father John, Sr. and his beloved mother Betty (Miller) Lineen.
