William F. Fontaine, 89, died peacefully on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Midstate Medical Center. Born on November 6, 1929, he was the son of the late the late Theresa Bruell Fontaine Parks and stepson to the late O.J. Parks.

Bill attended St. John’s Academy in Wisconsin and graduated from high school in Barrington, IL. He attended the University of California in Los Angeles and received his CPCW (Charter Property Casualty Underwriter designation) from the University of San Francisco.
Bill had a long and successful career in the insurance industry serving as an underwriter, special agent and insurance risk manager, retiring from this position with the American President Line. He formerly professionally served as Secretary for the Risk Insurance Management Society (RIMS). He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force.
Bill was a man of many interests and talents; he enjoyed photography and working on his boat “Shibui.” In retirement he developed an expertise in creating Shaker Furniture.
Bill leaves behind his loving and supportive wife of 45 years, Carolyn Gibbons Fontaine with whom he shared many happy and memorable times with family, friends and travel. The Fontaines enjoyed many happy years living in Marin County, California prior to their relocation to Meriden.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Michelle Stanton of Ohio; his son, Michael (Karol) of California; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves behind his former wife, Jacqueline Badger Fontaine of California.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center Street, Meriden. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
