Helmi M. Seppa, 94, beloved sister, mother, grandmother and great (great) grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 19th after a brief illness. Born in Rudyard, MI on March 17th, 1924 to William and Hilja (Malaska) Saaranen, she was the second of five children.
Helmi was a long time resident of Meriden having relocated her young family in 1960 with her husband, the late Simon Seppa. She was a dedicated working mother raising two sons while successfully managing a 35+ year career in retail pharmacy. Retiring at age 79, Helmi pursued her hobbies, but took greatest pleasure in spending time with her family and friends. Selfless to a fault with a warm, generous, loving heart, our beautiful angel now has her wings and will be sorely missed by all she touched.
Helmi is survived by her sons Ron (Cindy) Seppa and Jerry (Nancy) Seppa, sisters Lempi (Dick) Hannaford and Anita (Don) Evans, grandchildren Terry Seppa, Jen (Lou) Bottari, Rick (Ashleigh) Seppa, Elizabeth (Geoff) Bagshaw, Katie (Paul) Lyons, Danny Seppa and Emily Seppa, great grandchildren Massimo Bottari, Sofie Bottari, Giorgi Bottari, Cameron Seppa and Addison Lyons, great-great grandson Alex Seppa as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Helmi was preceded in death by her sister Mildred Aho, brother Doug Saaranen, great granddaughter Aubrey Seppa and great grandson Alex Seppa.
A celebration of Helmi’s life will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden. Family and friends may call on Saturday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to Juvenile Diabetes at JDRF, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004 or through JDRF.org.
