Print
Bernard A. Reiske, 89, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2018 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. Born on October 31, 1929 in Meriden, Bernie was the son of the late Andrew and Helen (Patkoske) Reiske.

A lifelong resident of Meriden, Bernie attended local schools and graduated from Central CT State University (formerly New Britain Teachers College) and was employed as a teacher and administrator in the Meriden school system for a number of years. He truly enjoyed teaching business administration over the years at Platt High School where he eventually became an assistant principal. He also proudly served in the United States Army prior to his becoming an educator.

Bernie was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary’s Church where he also served as an adviser to the parish school. In his early years, Bernie enjoyed traveling with his friends to many different countries around the world. He was also a long-time volunteer for the American Red Cross and in his later years was actively involved as a board member for the Castle Craig Adult Learning Center, where he enjoyed planning trips and educational and informational sessions. He made many friends while a member of this organization. He was a longtime fan of the NY Mets, UConn basketball and Notre Dame football and enjoyed watching their games. His spirit and lively conversations will be missed by his family and many friends.

Bernie is survived by several nieces and nephews: Susan Bergeron of Meriden, Bill and Karen Bergeron of Meriden, Tom Bergeron of Cheshire, Peter and Diana Bergeron of Meriden, Janet and Glenn Breedlove of Plantsville, and Craig and Christine Bergeron of Meriden as well as his brother-in-law, J. Raymond Bergeron of Naples, FL. He is also survived by several grand nieces and nephews: Sarah, Matt, and Finnian Kitsos, Jason, Eric, Matthew, Peter, Katelyn and Samantha Bergeron and Nicole Breedlove. He was predeceased by his brother Robert, sister Patricia, and grand nephew Stephen.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 10:00 am at Our Lady Queen of Angels, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Campus, 109 Goodwill Ave, Meriden, CT.
