Obituary for Antonia Velez (Salguedo)

“We do not remember days, we remember moments. The richness of life lies in memories we have forgotten” ~ Cesare Pavese

Antonia (Salguedo) Velez, 89, wife of the late Policarpo Velez, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 10, 2018 at Midstate Medical Center. Born in Cartagena, Colombia on 1928, she was the daughter of the late Porfirio Salguedo and Patricia Zalbaza.

Antonia (also known as Toña/Toñita by her family and friends) was a devoted loving mother of two boys and eight girls; Flor D’Auria, Rosa Tulia Gonzalez, Sonia Velez, Antonia Velez, Ayda Hughes, Poli Velez, Gloria Green, Osvaldo Velez, Patricia LaRock and Marta Luz Velez. She was very proud of her family and was excited to become an "abuela" to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother Carmelo Salguedo and a sister, Carmen Orozco.

Antonia enjoyed holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. Antonia was an excellent cook and she enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends and loved music and dance. Lovingly referred to as “The Dancing Machine” Antonia could out dance anyone that dared to take up the challenge.

The family will receive friends on March 12, 2018 at the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main Street Meriden CT, 06450 from 11:00am to 12:30 pm and will be eternally laid to rest at Sacred Heart Cemetery immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd S #4b, Southington, CT 06489
