Marie Theresa Eugene Cote Toussaint of Meriden passed away on Monday October 23, 2017 at the age of 93 after a lengthy illness at the St. Elizabeth Center. She was the beloved wife for 49 years of the late Edgar Toussaint. She was the identical twin daughter of the late Eugene and Rossana Baillargeon Cote and was born on French Island in Old Town, ME on October 29. 1923. She graduated from Old Town High School, after which, she moved to Fort Kent, ME to work for the State of Main Social Services. That is where she met her husband Edgar. They were married on December 1, 1942, purchased and farmed Edgar’s family farm in Solider Pond, Maine until 1954, then relocated with their children to Southington, CT for a brief time. In 1955, they established residency in Meriden, CT and remained there for the remainder of their lives. Theresa was also employed by United Technologies at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in North Haven, CT as an inspector until her retirement in March of 1987.
Theresa’s retirement allowed her to travel and spend devoted time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, not only at home in Connecticut, but also in Arizona, Florida, Texas, and California. Besides extending her travel to Maine, Virginia and many other states to visit her family and many relatives, she managed travel to Mexico. Canada, France, Italy, Spain, The Old Yugoslavia and the Holy Land.
She is survived by her children; Rita Jeanne and her husband Alfred Saucier, Tucson, AZ; Eileen Marie and her husband Richard MacDonald, Vernon, CT; Karen Theresa Hill, Durham, CT; Mary Ellen and her husband Stanley Smolinski, Ave Marie, FL; Joy Elizabeth Toussaint, Orleans, France and Ross Edgar Toussaint, Longboat Key, FL, grandchildren; Duane Saucier, Robin Saucier Bayer and her husband Mathew, Chris and his wife Yolanda Belvis Saucier, Shawn and his wife Cami Whitehead Saucier, Richard MacDonald Jr. and his companion Gayle Richards, Patricia MacDonald and her husband Kurt Thresher, Natalie MacDonald Ouellet, Acacia Hill and her husband Wilfredo Sanchez, Robert Hill Jr, Rachel Smolinski, Sarah Smolinski, Theresa Smolinski and her husband Ken Anderson, Elijah Toussaint, Delane Toussaint, great grandchildren; Sierra Renteria, Chase Bayer, Hailey, Ella, Aeron and Alissa Saucier, Dylan Gellert, Briana and Christian MacDonald, Valencia Vasquez, Divino and Brielle Gil, Mason and Liam Sanchez, great great granddaughter Luna, sisters and brothers-in-law; Bernice and Fernald Curtis, Betty Ann and Francis Riva, Joyce Stallings, Linda and Billy Deshane, Donna and Al Hersey, brothers and sisters-in-law; Donald Cote, Lester and Annette Cote and Francis and Jeannie Cote and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her identical twin Rita Alice and husband LeRoy Speiss, brothers; Robert Cote and his wife Beverly, Wallace Cote and his wife Theresa; George Cote and his wife Joanne, son in-law Robert Hill and granddaughter Erin Hill.
Theresa was a loving person to all she encountered and faced each day optimistically with grace, gratitude and bravery. She was interested in other people and sought to weave her faith and narrative among the threads of those she met and knew, by example and caring, with great wit and humor. No matter what challenges she faced in her life, she would say, “This too shall pass” as she depended on her devout faith in God to assuage her disappointments and suffering. She will be grievously missed but she will shine as an example of how to live life to its fullest and then surrender to God with grace.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral mass to be held on Friday October 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish, Mount Carmel Campus. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden.
