Helen Geary Zajac, a lifelong resident of Meriden, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2017 at Elim Park at the age of 99, one month shy of her happily anticipated 100th birthday. She was the loving wife of the late Henry J. Zajac.
Helen was born in Meriden on September 27, 1917 to Richard and Maude Geary. She was a graduate of Meriden High School and was employed by the New Departure Division of General Motors and retired in 1986 after 26 years of working at Nathan Hale School as the secretary.
Helen was active in the Meriden Mothers Circles, a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Meriden Council of Catholic Women, and a board member of the Members First CT Federal Credit Union. She also did typing for the blind and was a tour guide on bus trips throughout the United States.
Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Richard Wallenius of Southington, four granddaughters and ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and was predeceased by her husband, one sister, two brothers and beloved niece Lisa Anne Trent.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff of Elim Park in the RCH and Post-Acute Care units, as well as Masonicare Hospice, for the wonderful care provided to Helen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden, followed by a private interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home.
