Dorothy L. Martin Cooper, 92, wife of late John Cooper Sr., died on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. Born in McComb, Miss. on June 24, 1924, she was the daughter of the late David and Ruby Martin. She had resided in Meriden and attended Brook-Haven Teachers College. Mrs. Cooper was employed by the State of CT as an occupational therapist for almost 40 years. She was a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. Dorothy had many interests, but the most dear to her heart were being a wife and mother. She loved cooking, baking and crocheting. Mrs. Cooper also received numerous certificates and plaques for her services to her community and job.
She is survived by two daughters, Janice Cooper Melvin of Henderson, NJ. and Gail Cooper Briggs of New Haven; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her children John Cooper Jr., Yvonne Cooper Watson, Maurice Cooper and David Cooper.
The wake will be held on Monday, April 24th from 6 to 8 pm at the Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, 84 Franklin St., Meriden. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 25th at 10am at the Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Willie J. Young officiating. Burial will be in State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown, 318 Bow Lane 06457. The John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden, has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
