It was always good to hear from Uncle Bob by letter, updating us on the snow storms and what was happening in the Meriden area. He always talked about his morning coffee at Food Bag on Broad Street and how much gasoline costs.. and the walks with his brother Joe at the golf course and how much he liked the New York Yankees. Of course, he would always remind me that his sister Wanda was a BOSTON RED SOX fan. He helped my daughter with a family tree report in the 8th grade and had alot of information for us about where everyone came from, etc. She received an "A" on the report.
A few different times he mentioned my grandmother, Mary, his sister. He said that he sent her flowers for her birthday and holidays. He knew lots of people that shopped at the A&P and said Mary was the nicest person of all the clerks. I quote him also saying in the same letter " she was the nicest person in her whole life!"
In August of 2017, I visited Meriden for a memorial for my brother Rob's passing. I visited with him in the Miller Memorial Center while he recovered from a fall. He told me how pretty my teeth and smile were!
On March 13th, 2018 I received a letter from him saying he missed his sister Wanda and brother Joe and that living alone was not easy. He also stated these words...."every night I pray and ask God, to take my soul to heaven", then he asked me if I say prayers like that? So he left here without doubt as to his plans after death. It was great to know him.
