Obituary for Janet C. Riberio (Iben)
Janet C.(Iben) Riberio, 78, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday April 12, 2018 at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in the coal mining town of Hazleton Pennsylvania, on November 14,1939, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Catherine (Chincola) Iben. She had resided in Meriden most of her life and attended Meriden schools.
Mrs. Riberio was very well respected for her work in the retail industry. She was employed by Kings, Ames,and Target Stores for over 40 years. She was an avid card player, devoted Red Sox fan and enjoyed trips to the casino. She took great pleasure in attending her grandchildren’s sporting, musical and academic events. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by two daughters, Debra Jean Riberio, of Meriden and Denise Jo Riberio, of Prospect; one son, Joseph Riberio III, of Meriden, seven grandchildren, Justin, Katrina, Daniel, Tyler, Jordan, Taylor and Aydyn, and one (soon to be two) great grandchildren. She was the wife of the late Joseph Riberio. She is predeceased by one brother, Gerald Iben and his surviving wife Carol Iben; many nieces, nephews and close friends.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 19 at 12 p.m., at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday morning prior to the service from 10 to 12 p.m. Should friends desire, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
