Walter D. Cosseboom, 86, passed away at home on February 18, 2018. He was born on July 29, 1931 in Old Town, Maine to the late Jefferson and Evelyn (Thompson) Cosseboom. He grew up in Bar Harbor, ME and then Boston, MA where he met Anna (Annie) Long. After bravely fighting on the front lines in the Korean War he returned home and married Annie. They shared their homes and their love with many foster children throughout their 53 years of marriage. He was a devoted husband who cared for Annie until her passing in 2006. He was an entrepreneur and a cofounder of American Lightwave Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of fiber optic video transmission equipment, where he worked until retirement. He married again to Helen Silvernale in 2010.
He was a kind, thoughtful, and generous, yet humble, man who always took care of his family, friends and neighbors. He was fun. He loved to laugh, tease his nieces and nephews, play cards, host Thanksgivings, vacation on Cape Cod, and travel. He was a great cook and a master of baked beans and scallops wrapped in bacon. He will be lovingly remembered for his smile, his laughter, and his great heart. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Helen and her children, Ronald (Cindy), Brain (Becky), Glenn, Jeff (Jennifer), Debbie (Jerry) Muller and their families; his two sisters, Carlene Hawley and Lois Cosseboom; and many nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his late wife Annie; his brothers, Francis “Red” and Alan; his sisters, Grace Callahan and Ruth Ann Crawford; and Helen’s son, Steven.
