Harvey R. Jenkins, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 after a brief illness. Harvey was born in Meriden on August 14, 1932 to the late Richard H. and Edith B. Jenkins. Harvey was a lifelong resident of Meriden. Harvey had been self-employed as a plasterer and sheet rock taper for much of his life before working for the Meriden School System and Corometrics as a Custodian. Harvey was an active member of the Meriden YMCA since the age of twelve and was a founding member of the Silver City Barbell Club. He had a great passion and knowledge of jazz and gardening and was an avid reader. He loved the New England Patriots!
Harvey is survived by his wife of fifty years, Patricia Molloy Jenkins. Harvey is the father of Jodi (Dave) Richardson of Meriden, Steven Jenkins and his girlfriend Kerry Verdecchia of Berlin and Sarah (Michael) Valerie of Meriden. Harvey is the proud grandfather of David and Tricia Richardson and Anthony, Aiden and Aaron Valerie, all of whom brought him tremendous love and joy. He loved his grandchildren and expressed pride watching them in their activities. He was predeceased by his brothers William and Robert Jenkins.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning prior to the service from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Contributions in Harvey’s memory may be made to the Meriden YMCA, 110 West Main Street, Meriden, CT 06451.
