Obituary for Felix Salgado
Felix Salgado, 87, husband of Carmen Ana Salgado with whom he shared 60 years of marriage, died on December 16, 2017 at Calvary Hospital in Bronx, NY after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family. Born in Dorado, Puerto Rico on April 3, 1930, he was the son of Eladia Marrero and Juan Salgado. He moved to New York from Puerto Rico with friends in 1954.
After getting married, Felix and Carmen moved to Meriden in 1958 from the Bronx, New York. They retired to Boynton Beach, Florida in 2000. Early in his career, Mr. Salgado was employed as a truck driver for Schwink’s Dairy and Guida’s Dairy. He joined Pembek Oil in the late 60s and later Valley Oil. He delivered oil to many Meriden area homes for over 30 years until he retired in 1995. Everywhere that Felix went in Meriden, he would be greeted by people he knew and he loved to stop and chat. His favorite thing to say was “I have a friend that…”. He was a parishioner of St. Rose Church for many years and served as a Eucharistic Minister in the church.
Felix loved watching sports and was an avid UCONN women’s basketball fan. He never missed their games on TV. He loved his family very much and dedicated his life to helping his daughters in any way he could, from painting a new house to babysitting his grandchildren in Florida. His laughter and humor will be dearly missed.
He is survived by three loving daughters Elis Salgado of Lake Worth, Florida, Debbie Salgado (Todd Schietroma) of Highland Mills, New York, and Zaida Salgado Aronovsky (Nate) of San Rafael, California. Felix loved spending time with his six grandchildren: Ariana and Bryan Diaz, Katrina, Sofia and Jessica Aronovsky and Timothy Schietroma.
In Puerto Rico, he is survived by his brothers and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his son, Alvin Salgado in 1982.
