Obituary for Winifred "Winnie" Mik (Minery)
Winifred Minery Mik, 90, of Meriden, wife of Raymond J. Mik Sr. passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017 after a brief illness. Her beloved husband of 70 years was by her side.
Winnie was born November 21, 1927, daughter of Rose Drauss Minery and Harold Minery. In her early years, Winnie was known as the local “Shirley Temple”, tap dancing and singing in many variety shows and at Meriden’s E.Poli Theatre. In fact, all the kids in the neighborhood would want to carry in a piece of her costume so they could get into the theatre for free. She went on to perform with a local orchestra led by Mr. Robert Cyr, Music Director, during her high school years.
Winnie was a life-long resident of Meriden, graduating from St. Stanislaus School and Meriden High School Class of 1945. She received the distinction of class wit, and her sense of humor served her well throughout her life. After high school Winnie then attended the School of Radiology in New Haven, Ct. She worked with several local physicians in her early career and then became Director of Admissions at Gaylord Hospital, a position she held for 20 years. She enjoyed her work at Gaylord and made many everlasting friendships with co-workers, patients and their families.
Her devotion to her Catholic faith led to her involvement in many clubs and activities at St. Stanislaus Church. After her retirement, she also volunteered for 18 years at the Meriden Wallingford Hospital and was a retreat promoter for Our Lady of Calvary Retreat House in Farmington, CT.
She is survived by her devoted daughter and best friend, Judy Mik and her son, Randy Mik, daughter in law Donna Adduci Mik, granddaughters Brittany Mik Rotonda (Jamie) and Natalie Mik, and her two precious great grandchildren, Preston and Saylor Rotonda. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and her long time best friend for over 73 years Dorothy Hallbach. She was pre-deceased by her sister Geraldine Biron and her brother Harold “Buddy” Minery.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, 82 Akron Street, Meriden. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Friends may call at the John J.
