Willie E. “Smoky” Vereen, 67, died on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Masonicare. Born in Pamplico, S.C., on November 13, 1949, he was the son of the late Willie James and Jessie Mae (Hugee) Vereen and had graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. Mr. Vereen was employed by the City of Middletown, Park & Rec. Department and also worked for General Motors in Michigan and Kohls in Wallingford, CT. He enjoyed music, loved life and making people laugh.
He is survived by one daughter, Ebony Belcher and her husband Charles of Portland, CT; one son, Jamaal Vereen of New Haven, CT; six grandchildren; Akeem, Tyrell, Tamiara, Toniesha, Alaynasha and Apollo; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Judy Rollins and Rhana Vereen; three brothers, John, Ricky and Mark Vereen. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including his special nieces, Kamika Williams and her husband Jermaine and Daima Privott. He was predeceased by a brother, Ronnie Vereen, a sister, Denise Privott and a niece, Demetria Privott.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, CT., from 2 to 6 p.m. Burial will be private.
