Mario Poletti, 94, husband of the late Nevia DeGrassi Poletti, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday, May 31, 2017. Born in Italy in 1923, Mario immigrated to the US with his wife and daughter after serving in the Italian Navy during WWII. When he arrived in the US, he immediately went to work to support his family. He was proud to have worked for the USPS for many years, retiring in 1989. He loved many things about America, primarily the Boston Red Sox. He also had a love of fishing in the sea and tending to his garden, which he cared for for most of his life.
Mario is survived by his daughter, Marisa Grodzicki and her husband Anthony, of Meriden; three grandchildren, Stephen Grodzicki and his wife Denise, of Durham, Angela Dorris, of Accord, N.Y., and Daniel Grodzicki, of Meriden; and two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Tyler Grodzicki.
The burial and a private service will be held for family on Monday at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden. In lieu of flowers, Mario would want you all to make an extra payment on your mortgage or credit card, as he always thought the worst thing in the world was paying interest.
