Obituary for Rosemary O'Regan

Rosemary O'Regan
Rosemary (Murphy) O’Regan passed away on May 18, surrounded by loving relatives and physicians, including her devoted husband of 64 years, Dr. Patrick T. O’Regan.

Rosemary was born in 1929 in Wakefield MA, daughter of the late John and Eileen Murphy of Gardner MA, and sister to Catherine (Murphy) Harasimowicz, Elizabeth (Murphy) Duncan, and the late Joanne (Murphy) Fields. She was proud of her family, finding joy as the wife of Dr. Patrick O’Regan, the mother of Maureen (O’Regan) Greco, Dr. Eileen O’Regan, Deirdre O’Regan and Patrick O’Regan; the mother-in-law of Cecily (Snyder) O’Regan, Michael Olsen and John Greco; the grandmother of Erin Greco Muhly, Regan Greco, Marykristen (Greco) Thacher, Maureen (Olsen) Dawson, Kathleen (Olsen) Coan, Daniel Olsen, and Lauren (Olsen) O’Rourke; the great-grandmother of Alden, Taylor and Connor Muhly, Nora and Luke Coan, and Owen Dawson. She held a special place in her heart for her sons in law: Dr. John Greco, who alone could call her “Murph” and gave her a favorite “Irish Mother Superior” sweatshirt, and Dr. Michael Olsen, who cared for her to the end.

Rosemary treasured her home in Cape Cod for its unparalleled view of Onset Bay. Her husband Patrick went to great effort to ensure her final years were spent there. In the summers, their home echoed with voices of kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, diligently doing “cheerful chores” before heading to the beach.

In earlier years, she was a tireless defender of the rights of unborn babies, serving as a lobbyist for the Catholic Council of Women in Hartford, CT, and opening her home in Meriden to pregnant mothers. She was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s Church in Meriden, CT and St. Margaret’s and St. Mary’s in Buzzards Bay, MA. Rosemary attended Emmanuel College in Boston MA and earned her BA in Sociology at Albertus Magnus in New Haven CT.

Rosemary’s family wishes to thank the staff at Cheshire Regional Rehab Center, Royal Cape Cod Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, and MidState Medical Center, especially Dr. Kathleen Sorcinelli.

Her family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday May 21 from 4-6 PM at the funeral home of John J. Ferry & Sons, 88 East Main St Meriden CT. The funeral will be held on Monday, May 22, at 8:45 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden and at 10 a.m. at St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St. Cheshire for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, 28 Tihonet Road, Wareham, MA 02571.

Should friends desire, contributions in her memory may be made to Mary Heart Crusaders, 531 West Main St. Meriden, CT 06451. http://www.maryheartcrusaders.org/support.html For online condolences please visit www.jferryfh.com.
