Obituary for Leona Jurgot
Leona R. Jurgot, 92, of Meriden, died peacefully in her sleep March 21, 2017. Lee was born in Norwich CT in 1924 and spent her early years in South Boston before relocating to Meriden in 1940. It was here that she met Bruno, her husband of 59 years, and they resided in Meriden all their lives.
Lee graduated from Southern Connecticut State Teachers College in 1963 and was an art teacher for the Meriden school system until her retirement in 1992. Lee enjoyed reading, listening to music, especially opera, camping and traveling, but her favorite times were being with family and friends, especially celebrating the holidays. She was known for her sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada with her family. After her retirement, she and her daughter traveled throughout Europe, Africa and Asia as well. Lee was an avid UConn women’s basketball fan and took every opportunity to watch them play. She was also an active volunteer of the Meriden Friends of the Library.
Lee was predeceased by her husband Bruno Jurgot. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Nancy and John Young, of South Meriden, son and daughter in law Mark and Jane Jurgot of Milford and two grandchildren: Mark Jurgot Jr and Nicole Jurgot of Milford.
A private funeral and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call at the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St, Meriden, CT 06450, on Friday March 24th, from 4 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be directed to the Meriden Public Library, 105 Miller St, Meriden, CT 06450, or the charity of your choice
