Obituary for Joseph F. LaFlamme

Joseph F. LaFlamme
Joseph F. LaFlamme passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 14th, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at the Summit of Plantsville. He was 88 years old.

Joseph leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Dora (LeDuc) LaFlamme; in addition to his daughter, Sharon Dorval and her husband Richard, his son Joseph and his wife Johanne, and his youngest son Donald. He also leaves five grandchildren; Nicole, Matthew, Brett, Jordan and Emily, and one great-grandson, Gavin. In addition, his sister, Lorraine Corriveau and her husband David.

Joe was born in New Britain, the son of Arthur and Alice (Pinard) LaFlamme. As a young man, he enjoyed spending time with relatives in Quebec, Canada at their family farm. He married his wife, Dora, before leaving to serve in World War II. He served in the U.S. Army Intelligence as an interpreter in Germany. He then returned to military service for the Korean Conflict. His commitment to fellow veterans led him to nine years of voluntary service at the VA Hospital in Newington.

He was employed by Pratt and Whitney prior to opening New Britain Auto Sales which led to his career in the auto sales industry. Following retirement, he and Dora enjoyed many years living in Spring Hill, FL and summering in Clinton, CT. To be closer to family and friends their later years were spent at Spring Lake Village, Southington CT.

Joe will be fondly remembered by all as an “easy” man of kind words and a smile for all.

Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Tuesday, April 4th at 11:00 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450. Burial with military honors will be in St. Mary Cemetery in New Britain. Family and friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 9 to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Newington Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
